Sensor Tasking

Sensor Tasking is a coordination service for acquiring targeted observations from commercial sensor networks. It supports custody continuity, post-launch acquisition, conjunction state refinement, and other scenarios where additional tracking is operationally necessary. All tasking is centrally managed by Satcat, with resulting data fused into standard OD workflows.

note

Sensor Tasking requires a Satcat Operations Enterprise tier subscription.

Scope of Service

Sensor Tasking is initiated for Resident Space Objects (RSOs) where catalog accuracy or GNSS telemetry is insufficient. Tasked observations are used to refine orbital states, reduce predictive uncertainty, and supplement automated conjunction assessment.

Supported use cases include:

  • Acquisition support for LEOP and commissioning scenarios
  • Custody restoration for drifting or untracked RSOs
  • Conjunction state refinement prior to maneuver planning
  • OD enhancement for non-GNSS or degraded telemetry assets

Data Integration

All acquired observations are ingested into Satcat's OD system. Resulting products follow standard OD processing and are made available to the originating operator.

Tasked observations are:

  • Transmitted as time-tagged angular or range measurements
  • Fused with telemetry data (if available) to produce updated OEMs
  • Propagated with covariances for conjunction screening
  • Used to update any active Conjunction Event records
  • Archived in the Ephemeris Repository

OD outputs derived from tasking are private to the requesting operator unless explicitly designated for coordination visibility.

Access and Usage

Sensor Tasking is available to operators with the Satcat Operations Enterprise tier. Once enabled:

  • Requests may be submitted via UI, API, or SDK
  • Tasking allocation is subject to quota and prioritization
  • Resulting ephemerides are automatically integrated into conjunction screening and state access systems
