Ephemeris Repository
The Ephemeris Repository provides a centralized location to view, upload, and manage all ephemerides used within Satcat Operations. It includes both operator-uploaded files and shared catalog data used for screening and coordination.
Operational Ephemeris
An ephemeris defines an asset's predicted trajectory, typically based on a recent orbit determination. Satcat uses ephemeris files to compute conjunction risk, generate CDM reports, and support mitigation planning.
Each file is tagged with metadata to support Satcat's Space Traffic Coordination (STC) system:
- Designation — Defines the file's authority and purpose (
OPERATIONAL
,THEORETICAL
, etc.) - Context — Describes intent behind the trajectory (
ROUTINE
,COLA
, etc.)
Only OPERATIONAL
ephemerides and derived data can be used by other operators. Learn about Operational Ephemeris
Uploading Files
Ephemeris can be uploaded manually from the repository, within a conjunction event, or via Satcat's SDK/API. All uploaded files are listed with:
- Upload date
- Associated
NORAD ID
- Useable start and end times
- STC Metadata tags
Manual Upload
- Select a file and specify its format
Auto-detect is recommended - View supported file formats - Assign asset using
NORAD ID
.
You cannot upload files for assets not in your organization. - Set Designation and Context
When uploading from a conjunction event, NORAD ID
is auto-filled and the file is designated THEORETICAL
. Operational designation applies only after plan validation.
Automation
Operators are strongly encouraged to automate ephemeris uploads to ensure timely conjunction screening and risk assessment.
- Use the Satcat SDK or REST API
- Requires an API key to authenticate uploads
Automation ensures your latest operational data is used in screenings and shared with other coordinated operators.
Operational Catalog
The Operational Catalog aggregates all ephemerides explicitly marked as Public by Satcat operators. These trajectories are available for use in screening jobs and coordination workflows across the platform.
- Inclusion is based on ephemerides uploaded with
OPERATIONAL
designation and public visibility. - Ephemerides in the Operational Catalog are treated as authoritative for conjunction analysis.
- The catalog updates continuously as operators upload and re-designate files.
Screening jobs can select the Operational Catalog as source of secondary ephemeris data. Usage metadata is displayed in screening results to identify the source of each trajectory used.
Only your organization can download or access your uploaded ephemerides unless explicitly designated as Public in Privacy settings.

SP Catalog Access
Satcat Operations includes access to the 18 SDS Special Perturbations (SP) catalog under existing SSA agreements. These ephemerides are updated daily and available for download if required.
